For a change I thought I get this blog up and running more than twenty-four hours before we leave!!  That magic date will be August 26th, 2019 and I'm really excited!!

The WC is for the four rooms upstairs and today it is a bit congested.   It doesn’t matter, though, because we aren’t planning to leave until ten.   We just have to stop to see the country’s highest mountain and get to tonight’s guest house, Glacier World Guest House. Such an intense color! We get everything packed up and head back to Skalinn’s for breakfast.   Today I think I’ll have something different and the eggs Florentine sound perfect.   This may be the best Hollandaise sauce ever!   Marilyn has opted for a repeat of yesterday and our buddy behind the counter remembers what she had! We’re both stuffed and ready to venture forth into the gray and drizzly day.   About all today has on tap is driving, so it’s the perfect day to have our first rain.   And it’s really more of a heavy mist, and not at all like a Florida thunderstorm.   The wind, though, can be treacherous at times. There is a houseful getting breakfast to day!   When I get to the table there is a spread but I’m not sure who belongs to what, so I just fix a bowl of strawberry yogurt with granola and have a banana.   The kids from Austria are so good about cleaning up!   We are not planning to leave until ten, since our whale watch isn’t scheduled until one o’clock, so we’re the last ones out. See that wind?  That's shy we're not whale watching today! It’s a pleasant drive (any day without fog or rain is a good one!) and we arrive in Dalvik in PLENTY of time to check in.   Turns out it doesn’t matter, since they’ve canceled the afternoon run due to wind conditions.   Well.   At least we’ve gained four hours in today’s schedule.    Tricky Ricky’s handy book talks about Iceland’s first microbrewery and it’s right on our way! They have a brewpub and it has a beer spa!   Of course we have to stop and see if they serve fligh...

Westmann Islands to Hella, September 10, 2019

t’s a sleep-in kind of morning!   I’m still up around six;   but at least it isn’t because my alarm screamed at me!   Marilyn has a long night’s sleep after yesterday’s rather stressful driving in the rain and drizzle.   We don’t get breakfast today, so we stopped yesterday and bought Skyr yogurt and red grapes.   The yogurt is really good and comes with the cutest little fold-up spoon that snaps open.   Marilyn has strawberry with the fruit on the bottom and I have vanilla with lots and lots of tiny chocolate bits.   We also bought a large round thing that looks like bread but is a cinnamon bun with thick dark chocolate spread all across the top. How clever is this?  It just snaps into place! The apartment comes with tea bags and instant coffee, but no sugar or milk, so I have tea and Marilyn sticks with water.   It is quite a treat, though, to have our en suite!
